Champion Captain Claims Colossal Conquest on Cracking Canada Comeback
16 Aug 2016 by Hector Millar
Having stepped off the plane at 11am, and getting home by 3pm, returning skipper Millar was turned out and ready a good ten minutes before the 7pm kickoff in a real turn up for the books.
The opposition were perennial strugglers and long term foes Killer Bees, the contemporary bottom of the table dwellers - lined up in a relegation crunch match.
In 25 degree heat and without a sub, fans were concerned for the players however the Aardvarks started strongly with Horder hitting the crossbar and Borkowski senior hitting the post. But several early missed chances, had some devoted followers worrying it was going to 'one of those days' - of which the Aardvarks have had many in the last few weeks.
With the ball in the Bees possession, some good harrying and hectoring by H dot Millar the pressure grew on the Bees keeper and he couldn't deal with it. Millar nipped in and scored a disappointingly easy goal considering the chances that had been squandered.
This though allowed the flood gates to be opened, and the combination of nice inter play from the Aardvarks and a disgraceful lack of tracking back from the Bees let our fresh faced quintet loose.
The final score was ugly reading for the Bees: 15-1.
Evans finished up with at least five, but the goals were shared around even Gardner from in goal scored one. Reopening the debate of whether Priest will ever claim back his keeping berth. Millar on return claimed a hattrick and five assists, but more importantly a first competitive win of the season.
Encouraging signs for Varkers especially with more and more players returning from their summer expeditions, already some still unavailable due to 'cinema trips with the family'.
