A season of twists and turns ended in typical fashion with an eventful final day. The players arrived at the ground in good spirits and settled in on the side of pitch 3 to watch the first instalment of the title defining evening.
It was an arduous watch as Yipee dominated proceedings and had the Red Star VI not been so resilient at the back and their keeper having such a solid match it could have been all over very quickly. But Red Star had their chance and after a swift counter and a sharp save from Yipee's keeper the goal presented itself to the Red Star man who proceeded to blaze it over the bar leading to several squeals from the touchline.
Yipee squandered chance after chance including a last ditch block on the line with the goal gaping. And with time running out they were pushing for the win and left themselves short at the back and at 19:59 Red Star swept in what had to be winning goal which sparked delirium off the pitch.
The Kings of Leon Osman were then summoned to play their game as the final seconds ticked away on Yipee's season. After a minute of trying to play our game while concentrating on the other one the final whistle was blown and the title was in our hands, needing a five goal win.
Playing with an intensity and drive that I had never seen before from this team we took an early lead after tournament top scorer Angus Lowe found the back of the net in typical fashion. We doubled our lead around the halfway mark when that man again Lowe beat their keeper.
A couple of glorious chances went begging before our all out attack strategy caught up with us and we conceded to a good strike. This goal rocked us and fairly shortly after the game was all square with another sharp finish.
By now we just had to make sure we won just in case the title was going to be decided on head-to-head record and not goal difference. And thankfully A. Lowe completely his hat trick and we saw the game out.
As we left the astro we noticed that the trophy we had all been after had gone so we cheekily asked what was going on and were broken the news that the game we had watched had been no more than a mere friendly and that our game was effectively a dead rubber.
